On May 1, the Department of Energy (DOE) published its final rule concerning new construction "Clean Energy for New Federal Buildings and Major Renovations of Federal Buildings." The National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) has been engaged in this rule since DOE issued a supplemental notice of proposed rulemaking in December 2022.

AGA and partners challenge DOE rules limiting access to energy-efficient natural gas products, citing legal violations and potential harm to consumers, especially seniors and low-income households. They urge the court to reconsider the rules for consumer options and affordability.

The National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) achieved successes at the recent ICC Fuel Gas code meetings, including substantial updates and clarifications to regulations that directly impact the propane industry.

Nebraska recently became the 26th state to enact protections for energy freedom.

Legislative Bill (LB) 867 prevents local governments, such as a villages, cities, and counties from prohibiting or restricting access to a fuel source or a type of energy that is authorized to be supplied to customers, including specifically propane. These legal protections safeguard the marketplace for propane and ensure the fuel remains an energy option for consumers. The enactment of LB 867 follows more than a year of engagement on this issue in the Cornhusker State.

The Clean School Bus Rebates program deadline has been extended. The program offers rebates for school districts opting to use cleaner school buses, including fleets that run on propane. Applications are now due Feb. 14.
NPGA President and CEO Steve Kaminski has been nominated to the Board of Advisors of the Council of Manufacturing Associations. The council includes over 260 national associations with representation of a wide range of manufacturing sectors.

NPGA has established a legal action fund to proactively combat recent government restrictions on gas equipment. Ongoing legal battles that have put a strain on the propane industry led the NPGA Executive Committee to devote significant, long-term resources to advocating for the industry's interests.

The National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) has announced the creation of the Renewable Fuels Committee (RFC). The RFC was established by NPGA’s executive committee and exists to foster discussions of renewable fuels at a national level.

According to NPGA’s website, the RFC “aims to oversee NPGA activity related to renewable fuels that will drive market growth and take steps toward lowering the carbon intensity of fuels delivered by propane marketers.” This includes prioritizing incentives, along with other advocacy activities.
