Amanda Bohm, manager at Sunrise Propane, began her entry into the propane industry soon after her college graduation in 2021. At just 19 years old, she earned her Cat 1 601 Qualifier License and dove into the field, determined to gain hands-on experience from the ground up.
“I started by shadowing our bobtail drivers, tank setters, gas pipers and salesmen,” Amanda recalls. “That hands-on experience was crucial in shaping how I approach leadership today.” Her commitment and curiosity helped her quickly rise through the ranks, eventually becoming manager of Sunrise Propane, a family-owned company in Hudson, Florida, serving the local community since 1989.
Since taking on a leadership role, Amanda has focused on driving innovation by involving her team in improvements that increase efficiency, reduce risks and enhance customer service. “To me, innovation is about creating meaningful change through new ideas, processes or improvements that adds value or solves a problem in a unique or more effective way,” she says. “I measure innovation by the impact it has on not only the company, but our amazing employees.”
She views innovation as a team effort and actively encourages input from staff at all levels. “Whether they are in the office or in the field, I regularly ask for their input,” Amanda says.
She also cultivates a culture where employees are empowered to identify issues and propose changes. “I encourage staff to question inefficiencies, share ideas and take ownership of improvements.”
One area where this mindset has had an impact is customer experience. “We have been working with our software company, monitoring company, processing company, etc., to provide customers with modern convenience,” Amanda explains. These efforts aim to streamline operations and offer customers a more efficient, user-friendly experience.
Thinking outside the box is a key component of Amanda’s leadership. “Whether it is reworking outdated workflows or introducing new technologies, I constantly look for ways to improve efficiency and service,” she says. “The industry can learn from our approach by embracing a culture where creative ideas are encouraged at every level.”
Amanda is also deeply committed to professional growth. In 2025, she earned her Master Cat 1 Gas License, a milestone she says reflects her “continued commitment to the industry.”
Amanda sees cross-generational collaboration as vital to the propane industry’s future. “The most effective path forward lies in bridging these generational strengths,” she says. “Cross-generational collaboration will lead to well-rounded, innovative solutions to allow the propane industry to preserve its core strengths while positioning itself for future success.”
Looking ahead, Amanda envisions a future where propane is recognized as a clean, innovative and respected energy source. “I plan to continue contributing by pushing for smarter technologies, advocating for sustainability initiatives and helping modernize how the industry operates from the office to the field,” she says. “I also want to inspire the next generation to see the propane industry with real career opportunities.”
