Last week, Governor Mike Braun signed House Bill 1150 into law. This legislation prevents local governments and homeowners’ associations from banning or limiting access to motor vehicles, landscaping equipment and construction equipment based upon the type of fuel — such as propane — the machines use to operate.

These legal protections safeguard consumer and business access to a range of propane-powered engine applications, including autogas vehicles, lawn mowers and scissor lifts.

Matt Solak, executive director of the Indiana Propane Gas Association (IPGA), has been championing HB 1150 since it was first introduced in Indianapolis.

“This legislation reinforces that state law should protect free market choice in the energy and transportation sectors,” said Solak. “The IPGA appreciates policymakers taking steps to ensure pro-business policies for Hoosiers.”

As of the 2024 industry sales report, Indiana is the 12th largest state propane market in the country, with 249 million gallons of fuel sold. For more information, contact NPGA’s Senior Director of State Advocacy & Affairs, Jacob Peterson.
