(Dec. 27, 2024) — Canada's primary underground propane inventories decreased by 10.13% in December, according to the Canada Energy Regulator. The total represented a month-to-month decrease of 160.7 Mcm. Compared to a year earlier, stocks were lower, with 183.6 Mcm, or 11.41%, less product on hand. 

 

Propane storages in the West started December a bit lower at 910.1 Mcm, which corresponds to 5.734 MMbbl, the agency reported. From November to December, volumes decreased by 179.6 Mcm, or 16.48%, and were 109.6 less the year prior's level of 1019.7 Mcm 

 

Propane storages in the East started December higher at 515.9, commensurate with 3.25017 MMbbl. This gain put propane 19 Mcm, or 3.82%, higher for the month. Inventories decreased year over year, however, and were down 74.1, or 12.56%, from 2023. 

 

Canadian butane inventories stood at 763.6 Mcm at the beginning of December, for a decrease of 225.1 Mcm, or 22.77%, from November. Like propane, the year-over-year comparison finds butane volumes to be lower than the prior year's total, with inventories 75.4 Mcm, or 8.99%, below 2023.  

 

Western butane supplies, at 341.6 Mcm, were lower by 107.6 Mcm, or 23.95%, from November and were 161.3 Mcm, or 32.07%, less than last year. Eastern butane, at 422 Mcm, was 117.5 Mcm, or 21.78%, lower month over month, but increased from 2023, totaling 85.9 Mcm, or 25.56%, above a year earlier.
