Canada's primary underground propane inventories decreased by 2.1% in April, according to the Canada Energy Regulator. The total represented a month-to-month decrease of 8.4 Mcm. Compared to a year earlier, stocks were lower, with 319.8 Mcm, or 44.5%, less product on hand.
Propane storages in the West started April a bit higher at 291.6 Mcm, which corresponds to 1.837 MMbbl, the agency reported. From March to April, volumes increased by 10 Mcm, or 3.6%, and were 255.7 less the year prior's level of 547.3 Mcm.
Propane storages in the East started April lower at 107, commensurate with 674,000 bbl. This loss put propane 18.4 Mcm, or 14.7%, lower for the month, with a decrease of 64.2, or 37.5% below a year earlier.
Canadian butane inventories stood at 431.9 Mcm at the beginning of April, for an increase of 22.6 Mcm, or 5.5%, from March. Like propane, the year-over-year comparison finds butane volumes to be higher than the prior year's total, with inventories 11.6 Mcm, or 2.8%, above 2024.
Western butane supplies, at 283.4 Mcm, were higher by 61.5 Mcm, or 27.7%, from the previous months and were 24.9 Mcm, or 8.1%, less than last year. Eastern butane, at 148.5 Mcm, was 38.9 Mcm, or 20.8%, lower month over month, and totaled 36.5 Mcm, or 32.6%, above a year earlier.
