The March 2026 Canadian propane inventories decreased by 48.5% in March, according to the Canada Energy Regulator. The total represented a month-to-month decrease of 418.5 Mcm. Compared to a year earlier, stocks were higher, with 36.9 Mcm, or 9.1%, more product on hand.

Propane storages in the West started March lower at 345 Mcm, which corresponds to 2.174 MMbbl, the agency reported. From February to March, volumes decreased by 233.4 Mcm, or 40.4%, and were 63.4 Mcm, or 22.5%, more the year prior's level of 281.6 Mcm.

Propane storages in the East started March lower at 98.9 Mcm, commensurate with 623,000 bbl. This loss put propane 185.1 Mcm, or 65.2%, lower for the month, with a decrease of 26.5 Mcm, or 21.1%, below a year earlier.

Canadian butane inventories stood at 577.3 Mcm at the beginning of March, for a decrease of 44.7 Mcm, or 7.2%, from February. Like propane, the year-over-year comparison finds butane volumes to be higher than the prior year's total, with inventories 168 Mcm, or 41.1%, above 2025.

Western butane supplies, at 455.6 Mcm, were higher by 19 Mcm, or 4.4%, from the previous months and were 233.7 Mcm, or 105.3%, more than last year. Eastern butane, at 121.7 Mcm, was 63.8 Mcm, or 34.4%, lower month over month, and totaled 65.7 Mcm, or 35.1%, below a year earlier.
