The December 2025 Canadian propane inventories decreased by 3.8% from November, according to the Canada Energy Regulator. The total represented a month-to-month decrease of 59.1 Mcm. Compared to a year earlier, stocks were higher, with 52.5 Mcm, or 3.6%, more product on hand.
Propane storages in the West started December a bit lower at 961.2 Mcm, which corresponds to 6.055 MMbbl, the agency reported. From November to December, volumes decreased by 65.9 Mcm, or 6.4%, and were 27.9 Mcm, or 3% more the year prior's level of 933.3 Mcm.
Propane storages in the East started December higher at 540.5 Mcm, commensurate with 3.406 MMbbl. This gain put propane 6.8 Mcm, or 1.3%, higher for the month, with an increase of 24.6 Mcm, or 4.8% above a year earlier.
Canadian butane inventories stood at 885.6 Mcm at the beginning of December, for a decrease of 246.2 Mcm, or 21.8%, from November. Like propane, the year-over-year comparison finds butane volumes to be higher than the prior year's total, with inventories 71.9 Mcm, or 8.8%, above 2024.
Western butane supplies, at 516.5 Mcm, were lower by 115.3 Mcm, or 18.3%, from the previous months and were 124.9 Mcm, or 31.9%, more than last year. Eastern butane, at 369.1 Mcm, was 130.9 Mcm, or 26.2%, lower month over month, and totaled 52.9 Mcm, or 12.5%, below a year earlier.
