The September 2025 Canadian propane inventories increased by 27.7% in September, according to the Canada Energy Regulator (CER). The total represented a month-to-month increase of 346.5 Mcm. Compared to a year earlier, stocks were lower, with 151.8 Mcm, or 8.7%, less product on hand.

Propane storages in the West started September higher at 1097.8 Mcm, which corresponds to 6.916 MMbbl, the agency reported. From August to September, volumes increased by 238 Mcm, or 27.7%, and were 130.5 Mcm less the year prior's level of 1228.3 Mcm.

Propane storages in the East started September higher at 501.3 Mcm, commensurate with 3.158 MMbbl. This gain put propane 108.4 Mcm, or 27.6%, higher for the month, with a decrease of 21.3 Mcm, or 4.1% below a year earlier.

Canadian butane inventories stood at 1471.7 Mcm at the beginning of September, for an increase of 142.4 Mcm, or 10.7%, from August. Unlike propane, the year-over-year comparison finds butane volumes to be higher than the prior year's total, with inventories 267.7 Mcm, or 22.2%, above 2024.

Western butane supplies, at 887.8 Mcm, were higher by 111.7 Mcm, or 14.4%, from the previous months and were 221.6 Mcm, or 33.3%, more than last year. Eastern butane, at 583.9 Mcm, was 30.7 Mcm, or 5.5%, higher month over month, and totaled 46.1 Mcm, or 8.6%, above a year earlier.
