Canada's primary underground propane inventories decreased by 43.6% in March, according to the Canada Energy Regulator. The total represented a month-to-month decrease of 314.9 Mcm. Compared to a year earlier, stocks were lower, with 370.8 Mcm, or 47.7%, less product on hand.
Propane storages in the West started March a bit lower at 281.6 Mcm, which corresponds to 1.774 MMbbl, the agency reported. From February to March, volumes decreased by 223.6 Mcm, or 44.3%, and were 280.2 less the year prior's level of 561.8 Mcm.
Propane storages in the East started March lower at 125.4, commensurate with 79,000 bbl. This loss put propane 91.3 Mcm, or 42.1%, lower for the month, with a decrease of 90.6, or 41.9% below a year earlier.
Canadian butane inventories stood at 409.3 Mcm at the beginning of March, for a decrease of 96.7 Mcm, or 19.1%, from February. Unlike propane, the year-over-year comparison finds butane volumes to be higher than the prior year's total, with inventories 43.5 Mcm, or 11.9%, above 2024.
Western butane supplies, at 221.9 Mcm, were lower by 42.4 Mcm, or 16%, from the previous month and were 16.9 Mcm, or 7.1%, less than last year. Eastern butane, at 187.4 Mcm, was 54.3 Mcm, or 22.5%, lower month over month, and totaled 60.4 Mcm, or 47.6%, above a year earlier.
