Canada's primary underground propane inventories increased by 17.5% in July, according to the Canada Energy Regulator. The July 2025 Canadian propane inventories stood at 912.9 Mcm. The total represented a month-to-month increase of 135.8 Mcm. Compared to a year earlier, stocks were lower, with 326.3 Mcm, or 26.3%, less product on hand.
Propane storages in the West started July a bit higher at 622.4 Mcm, which corresponds to 3.921 MMbbl, the agency reported. From June to July, volumes increased by 64.8 Mcm, or 11.6%, and were 345.9 Mcm less the year prior's level of 968.3 Mcm.
Propane storages in the East started July higher at 290.5 Mcm, commensurate with 1.83 MMbbl. This gain put propane 71 Mcm, or 32.3%, higher for the month, with an increase of 19.6, or 7.2% above a year earlier.
Canadian butane inventories stood at 1090.2 Mcm at the beginning of July, for an increase of 175.6 Mcm, or 19.2%, from June. Unlike propane, the year-over-year comparison finds butane volumes to be higher than the prior year's total, with inventories 197.3 Mcm, or 22.1%, above 2024.
Western butane supplies, at 641.5 Mcm, were higher by 67.8 Mcm, or 11.8%, from the previous month and were 84.8 Mcm, or 15.2%, more than last year. Eastern butane, at 448.8 Mcm, was 107.9 Mcm, or 31.7%, higher month over month, and totaled 112.6 Mcm, or 33.5%, above a year earlier.
