Washington, D.C. (Sept. 11, 2025) — The National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) has announced a new program called NPGAid with the purpose of assisting full-time NPGA member company employees who need financial assistance in the wake of disasters or personal hardship.
In a news release that appeared in its “The Bobtail” newsletter, NPGA stated it “decided to start this fund in the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024, which were devastating to so many, including several NPGA member companies and their employees. The propane industry is an energy first responder — moving people and product to help devastated communities recover in times of disaster.”
Within the same news release, Stephen Kaminski, NPGA’s president and CEO, stated, “While the propane industry is always first to raise its hand to help others, Helene and Milton helped us realize that we had no direct way to help members of our own community cope with severe hardship. NPGAid is a way for us to meet that need. NPGAid will provide tax-free grants of up to $2,500 to qualified applicants directly impacted by a natural disaster or similar event. The goal is to develop a pool of disaster relief funds, ‘By Propane, For Propane.’”
According to the NPGAid website, the fund relies on support from the National Propane Gas Foundation, individual donations by the Foundation’s partners, propane industry members and/or the general public. Donations to the fund can be made as one-time gifts or recurring contributions. NPGA itself has committed to matching up to the first $100,000 in donations. The Emergency Assistance Foundation will serve as the administrator for the fund, including “accepting donations, objectively reviewing grant applications, and awarding and distributing the grants,” per the NPGAid website.
NPGA issued this encouragement to industry members upon the launch of NPGAid: “The healthier the fund, the better positioned NPGAid will be to help members when disaster or hardship strikes.”
Those impacted by unforeseen disaster or personal hardship can apply for financial assistance through the application process on npgaid.com. The Application FAQ can help determine if an applicant would qualify for assistance ahead of submission.
