The August 2025 Canadian propane inventories increased by 37.2% from July, according to the Canada Energy Regulator. The total represented a month-to-month increase of 339.7 Mcm. Compared to a year earlier, stocks were lower, with 321.6 Mcm, or 20.4%, less product on hand.

Propane storages in the West started August higher at 859.8 Mcm, which corresponds to 5.417 MMbbl, the agency reported. From July to August, volumes increased by 237.4 Mcm, or 38.1%, and were 273.3, or 24.1% less the year prior's level of 1133.1 Mcm.

Propane storages in the East started August higher at 392.9, commensurate with 2.475 MMbbl. This gain put propane 102.4 Mcm, or 35.3%, higher for the month, with a decrease of 48.2, or 10.9% below a year earlier.

Canadian butane inventories stood at 1329.3 Mcm at the beginning of August, for an increase of 239 Mcm, or 21.9%, from July. Unlike propane, the year-over-year comparison finds butane volumes to be higher than the prior year's total, with inventories 241.7 Mcm, or 22.2%, above 2024.

Western butane supplies, at 776.1 Mcm, were higher by 134.6 Mcm, or 21%, from the previous months and were 157.1 Mcm, or 25.4%, more than last year. Eastern butane, at 553.2 Mcm, was 104.4 Mcm, or 23.3%, higher month over month, and totaled 84.6 Mcm, or 18.1%, above a year earlier.
