ThompsonGas has acquired the propane, commercial motor fuels, and lubricants business of WTG Fuels, LLC. The acquired delivered fuels business will operate in Midland, Texas, under the continued leadership of the WTG Fuels team.

During the latest mid-month period, Mont Belvieu and Conway both experienced significant price decreases. Mont Belvieu postings fell 12.25 cents/gal, while Conway postings dropped 7.15 cents/gal, with spot prices following similar downward trends at both locations.

Last week, the Western Propane Gas Association (WPGA) filed a lawsuit in state court against the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in regards to the agency’s Zero-Emission Forklift Rulemaking, which was approved in June. This new CARB regulation will prohibit the production and sale of large, spark-ignited (LSI) forklifts for the California market, and require the early retirement of LSI forklifts currently in operation. Both the ban on new sales and the early retirement mandate will affect propane-powered forklifts and the businesses who rely on them.

Canada's primary underground propane inventories increased by 27% in August, according to the Canada Energy Regulator. The total represented a month-to-month increase of 335 Mcm. Compared to a year earlier, stocks were higher, with 191.8 Mcm, or 13.9%, more product on hand.

Propane storages in the West started August a bit higher at 1133.1 Mcm, which corresponds to 7.138 MMbbl, the agency reported. From July to August, volumes increased by 164.8 Mcm, or 17%, and were 256.7 Mcm more the year prior's level of 876.4 Mcm.

Update (Aug. 22, 4:30 p.m. CDT): Just moments ago, Canadian Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon invoked powers under Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code to intervene in the dispute that brought Canada's two largest railways to a standstill. The Ministry has imposed binding arbitration and will extend rail contracts in the meantime. Operations on both Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Kansas City are expected to resume in short order.

The posted prices decreased 4.25 cents/gal, from July mid-month to August mid-month, and the spot prices decreased 6.125 cents. Conway, Kansas, postings decreased 3.9 cents/gal, and spots decreased 4.375 cents over the month.
