Canada's primary underground propane inventories increased by 24.2% in July, according to the Canada Energy Regulator. The total represented a month-to-month increase of 241.7 Mcm. Compared to a year earlier, stocks were higher, with 76.9 Mcm, or 6.6%, more product on hand.

Propane storages in the West started July a bit higher at 968.3 Mcm, which corresponds to 6.1 MMbbl, the agency reported. From June to July, volumes increased by 194.9 Mcm, or 25.2%, and were 177.5 more the year prior's level of 790.8 Mcm.

Propane storages in the East started July higher at 270.9, commensurate with 1.7 MMbbl. This gain put propane 46.8 Mcm, or 20.9%, higher for the month, with a decrease of 100.6, or 27.1% below a year earlier.

Canadian butane inventories stood at 892.9 Mcm at the beginning of July, for an increase of 220.5 Mcm, or 32.8%, from June. Unlike propane, the year-over-year comparison finds butane volumes to be lower than the prior year's total, with inventories 97 Mcm, or 9.8%, below 2023.

Western butane supplies, at 556.7 Mcm, were higher by 97.3 Mcm, or 21.2%, from the previous month and were 13.5 Mcm, or 2.4%, less than last year. Eastern butane, at 336.2 Mcm, was 123.2 Mcm, or 57.8%, higher month over month, and totaled 83.4 Mcm, or 19.9%, below a year earlier.
