New Mexico Govern Michelle Lujan signs Bill 41 into effect.

Whippany, N.J. — March 5, 2024 — Suburban Propane Partners L.P., a nationwide distributor of propane, renewable propane, renewable natural gas, fuel oil and related products and services, commemorated the signing of New Mexico House Bill 41, establishing a clean transportation fuel standard program to reduce the carbon intensity of transportation fuels through 2040.

Suburban Propane was part of the New Mexico Clean Fuels Coalition, which led advocacy efforts supporting House Bill 41. The bill sets goals of reducing the carbon intensity of transportation fuels used in the state by at least 20% below 2018 carbon intensity levels by 2030, and at least 30% below 2018 carbon intensity levels by 2040. Suburban Propane was invited by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s office to attend the bill signing ceremony.

“Bill 41 will reduce the carbon intensity of transportation fuels in the state of New Mexico,” said Nandini Sankara, spokesperson of Suburban Propane. “Suburban Propane, through our Suburban Renewables subsidiary, is committed to investing in the next generation of lower-carbon renewable energy sources, and we were honored to participate in the New Mexico Clean Fuels Coalition’s Steering Committee, providing advocacy and testimony in favor of this bill.”

This effort is part of Suburban Propane’s subsidiary Suburban Renewables, which leads the company’s long-term strategic growth and diversification efforts to identify new areas of investment, strategic partnerships, and collaborations within the renewable energy space. These efforts meaningfully advance Suburban Renewable’s strategic goal of building out a renewable energy platform to help drive the energy transition to a low-carbon economy.
