Washington (May 12, 2025) — The US Department of Energy (DOE) announced in a news release the first step in a large deregulatory effort that proposes the elimination or reduction of 47 regulations that are "driving up costs and lowering quality of life for the American people." The DOE projects these deregulatory actions could save the American people an estimated $11 billion once finalized and cut more than 125,000 words from the Code of Federal Regulations. The DOE's actions aim to "advance President Trump's promise to restore consumer freedom, lower costs and unleash American energy dominance" — directly in accordance with the "Zero-Based Regulation to Unleash American Energy" executive order.
“While it would normally take years for the Department of Energy to remove just a handful of regulations, the Trump administration assembled a team working around the clock to reduce costs and deliver results for the American people in just over 110 days,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright in the news release.
The 47 actions cover several moves that could apply to the energy and propane industries, including the proposed elimination or modification to dozens of consumer appliance standards and regulations limiting building and energy production. A list of actions that could potentially apply to the energy and propane sectors are listed below. For a full list of actions, visit the DOE website.
