Canada's primary underground propane inventories increased by 27% in August, according to the Canada Energy Regulator. The total represented a month-to-month increase of 335 Mcm. Compared to a year earlier, stocks were higher, with 191.8 Mcm, or 13.9%, more product on hand.
Propane storages in the West started August a bit higher at 1133.1 Mcm, which corresponds to 7.138 MMbbl, the agency reported. From July to August, volumes increased by 164.8 Mcm, or 17%, and were 256.7 Mcm more the year prior's level of 876.4 Mcm.
Propane storages in the East started August higher at 441.1, commensurate with 2.779 MMbbl. This gain put propane 170.2 Mcm, or 62.8%, higher for the month, with a decrease of 65 Mcm, or 12.8% below a year earlier.
Canadian butane inventories stood at 1087.6 Mcm at the beginning of August, for an increase of 194.7 Mcm, or 21.8%, from July. The year-over-year comparison finds butane volumes to be lower than the prior year's total, with inventories 68.3 Mcm, or 5.9%, below 2023.
Western butane supplies, at 619 Mcm, were higher by 62.3 Mcm, or 11.2%, from the previous month and were 10.8 Mcm, or 1.7%, less than last year. Eastern butane, at 468.6 Mcm, was 132.4 Mcm, or 39.4%, higher month over month, and totaled 57.5 Mcm, or 10.9%, below a year earlier.
