Canada's primary underground propane inventories decreased by 6.1% in October, according to the Canada Energy Regulator (CER). The total represented a month-to-month decrease of 102.3 Mcm. Compared to a year earlier, stocks were lower, with 222.1 Mcm, or 12.4%, less product on hand.
Propane storages in the West started October a bit lower at 1028.8 Mcm, which corresponds to 6.481 MMbbl, the agency reported. From September to October, volumes decreased by 120.8 Mcm, or 10.5%, and were 90.8 less the year prior's level of 1119.6 Mcm.
Propane storages in the East started October higher at 541.1, commensurate with 3.409 MMbbl. This gain put propane 18.5 Mcm, or 3.5%, higher for the month, with a decrease of 131.2, or 19.5% below a year earlier.
Canadian butane inventories stood at 1065.8 Mcm at the beginning of October, for a decrease of 101.3 Mcm, or 8.7%, from September. Like propane, the year-over-year comparison finds butane volumes to be lower than the prior year's total, with inventories 67 Mcm, or 5.9%, below 2023.
Western butane supplies, at 487 Mcm, were lower by 142.2 Mcm, or 22.6%, from the previous months and were 89.4 Mcm, or 15.5%, less than last year. Eastern butane, at 578.8 Mcm, was 41 Mcm, or 7.6%, higher month over month, and totaled 22.4 Mcm, or 4%, above a year earlier.
