Prairie Hills Transit will showcase its new low-emission buses equipped with advanced propane autogas technology. Attendees will have the opportunity to view a fuel demonstration and ride in one of the new propane buses.

The event highlights a shift in the transit industry away from diesel and gasoline toward buses powered by environmentally friendly alternative fuels. Vehicles that run on propane autogas emit fewer greenhouse gases, smog-producing hydrocarbons, and particulate emissions than conventional fuels.

Prairie Hills’ new paratransit buses are 90% cleaner in nitrogen oxides than the Environmental Protection Agency’s most stringent emission standard.

Participants in the event include Prairie Hills Transit, U.S. Senator John Thune, Spearfish Mayor John Senden, South Dakota State Department of Transportation, Community Transportation Association of America and ROUSH CleanTech.

Speakers include:

  • Barb Cline, executive director of Prairie Hills Transit
  • John Thune, U.S. Senator
  • John Senden, mayor of Spearfish, South Dakota
  • Joel Jundt, secretary of transportation at the South Dakota Department of Transportation
  • Scott Bogren, executive director of the Community Transportation Association of America
