Canada's primary underground propane inventories increased by 2.43% in October, Canada Energy Regulator (CER). The total represented a month-to-month increase of 47.9 Mcm. Compared to a year earlier, stocks were lower, with 354.5 Mcm, or 14.92%, less product on hand.
Propane storages in the West started October a bit higher at 1031.9 Mcm, which corresponds to 6.501 MMbbl, the agency reported. From September to October, volumes increased by 3.3 Mcm, or 0.32%, but were less the year prior's level of 1489.4 Mcm, commensurate with 6.236 MMbbl. This gain put propane 44.6 Mcm, or 4.72%, higher for the month, with an increase of 102.9, or 11.60% above a year earlier.
Canadian butane inventories stood at 972.5 Mcm at the beginning of October, for a decrease of 79.5 Mcm, or 7.56%, from September. Like propane, the year-over-year comparison finds butane volumes to be lower than the prior year's total, with inventories 442.4 Mcm, or 31.27%, below 2020. Western butane supplies, at 529.6 Mcm, were lower by 74.6 Mcm, or 12.35%, from the previous months and were 420.2 Mcm, or 44.24%, less than last year. Eastern butane, at 443 Mcm, was 4.8 Mcm, or -1.07%, lower month over month, and totaled 22 Mcm, or -4.73%, below a year earlier.
