Canada's primary underground propane inventories decreased by 37.82% in April, according to Canada Energy Regulator (CER). The total represented a month-to-month decrease of 227 Mcm. Compared to a year earlier, stocks were lower, with 463.3 Mcm, or 55.39%, less product on hand.
Propane storages in the West started April a bit lower at 312 Mcm, which corresponds to 1.966 MMbbl, the agency reported. From March to April, volumes decreased by 127.4 Mcm, or -28.99%, and were 212.3 less the year prior's level of 524.3 Mcm. Propane storages in the East started April lower at 61.2, commensurate with 385,560 bbl. This loss put propane 99.6 Mcm, or -61.94%, lower for the month, with a decrease of 251, or -80.40% below a year earlier.
Canadian butane inventories stood at 491.7 Mcm at the beginning of April, for an increase of 25.1 Mcm, or 5.38%, from March. Like propane, the year-over-year comparison finds butane volumes to be lower than the prior year's total, with inventories 147.2 Mcm, or 23.04%, below 2020. Western butane supplies, at 393.6 Mcm, were lower by 2 Mcm, or 0.51%, from the previous months and were 108.6 Mcm, or 21.62%, less than last year. Eastern butane, at 98.1 Mcm, was 27.1 Mcm, or 38.17%, higher month over month, and totaled 38.5 Mcm, or -28.18%, below a year earlier.
