The momentum of the Propane Education & Research Council's (PERC) "Better Our Buses" propane autogas school bus campaign has steadily gained traction since it first launched last September with celebrity spokesperson, Jenna Bush-Hager, daughter of former U.S. president George W. Bush, mother, author and NBC News correspondent. Butane-Propane News (BPN) featured coverage of the "Better Our Buses" campaign launch (BPN, Nov. 2015, p. 30), as well as an interview with Jenna Bush-Hager, who rode in a propane school bus for the first time during the PERC event at the Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School in Boston.

Bush-Hager told BPN she was surprised at how smooth the ride was and couldn't believe how much quieter and better for the environment propane school buses are compared to diesel buses. A former teacher, Bush-Hager is committed to getting the word out about the many benefits of propane school buses, specifically how much quieter propane engines are compared to diesel. The Propane Education & Research Council recently launched QuieterSchoolBuses.com to further educate propane influencers and school officials about this key advantage of the buses: noticeably quieter operation. With a quieter bus, the driver can better focus on passengers and the road ahead — providing a safer environment for everyone.

To help parents and school officials understand the impact of bus noise on safety, PERC created a school bus noise quiz, complete with sound clips of diesel and propane autogas school buses in operation. Quiz takers can "sit in the driver's seat" and try to determine which situation is happening on or around the vehicle while comparing the volume of the two buses. Take the quiz for yourself, and you'll see the difference is loud and clear.

This quiz is part of a larger PERC strategy that includes a variety of educational outreach for audiences. This tool is helpful when speaking with potential fleets or other customers to exemplify the benefits of propane autogas school buses.
