Hamilton, OH (March 26, 2025) — Midland Manufacturing announced its new Gauge Device Online Tool is now available for use. The company develops systems designed to enhance safety, reliability, efficiency and business performance in the railcar industry and is a product brand of OPW Fluid Transfer Solutions.
Gauge devices are used to assist in the loading of railcars, especially those tasked with transporting high-value and dangerous or hazardous liquids. The device’s gauge rods are color-coded so the operator knows when the tank is full and won’t become overfilled, which helps prevent product spills. To order a new gauge device or facilitate repairs for an existing unit, past efforts by tank-car manufacturers and repair shops required the user to download and manually fill out, then scan or print and email up to three separate documents to Midland. The new Gauge Device Online Tool allows the process to be completed in a matter of minutes via a desktop computer or mobile device.
All required forms will guide the user through the various stages of the ordering process to ensure a more efficient, stress-free, time-sensitive and accurate ordering process that can eliminate user frustration and ordering errors. The Gauge Device Online Tool also allows users to look up the serial number for an existing gauge device. This enables them to modify the specific-gravity markings on a gauge rod if or when the railcar is used to transport different commodities. Geometrically, the gauge rod will remain the same, but the scale affixed to the rod will be modified to match the specific handling requirements of the commodity that is being loaded.
"By streamlining the ordering and repair process, [the Gauge Device Online Tool] saves valuable time and reduces the risk of errors, making the entire experience more efficient and stress-free," said Don Olson, Product Manager for Midland Manufacturing. "The ability to look up serial numbers and adjust specific-gravity markings ensures that our customers can easily adapt to changing commodity requirements, improving both accuracy and flexibility in their operations."
