DES MOINES, Iowa (January 25, 2017) — The State of Iowa has adopted [661—201.2(1)] the 2015 edition of the International Fire Code (IFC), which within Section 2307 (Liquefied Petroleum Gas Motor Fuel-Dispensing Facilities) provides requirements for public fueling of motor vehicles (2307.7). The amendments made to IAC 661-226 allow for the public fueling of motor vehicles with liquefied petroleum gas [propane autogas, LPG, LP-gas], and authorizes the owner or the owner’s designee to provide training for the safe operation of the system to the users who are dispensing propane autogas motor fuel into propane fueled motor vehicles. Public fueling, even though allowed by the IFC, was prohibited prior to this January 25, 2017, amendment to IAC 661-226.
