As Young Gassers gears up for the 2024 NPGA Southeastern Expo, it is in the process of a major “reboot.” In addition to introducing two new Advisory Board members — Rachel Wendt and Evan Meier — the organization will make several exciting announcements during its annual Young Gassers Reception Friday evening, April 5, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Rachel Wendt with Wendt’s Propane and Oil in Sanborn, New York, has been in the propane industry for four years. She will serve as Young Gassers secretary.

Wendt and her husband are the third generation to take over management of his family’s business, which has been in operation for more than 55 years and is now one of the largest propane and oil distributors in New York State. As office manager, Wendt wears many hats, given her responsibilities for all bookkeeping, accounting and social media management functions. She said she loves the diversity her position brings. Named one of the 30 Under 30 Young Gassers in 2022, Wendt says she has met the most amazing people in the industry, and is excited for her new role with Young Gassers advisory board.

Evan Meier with Destwin has also joined the Young Gassers advisory board as executive editor and director of IT.

Meier serves as director of design for Destwin, a leading portal provider for energy marketers, where she has worked for nine years. Prior to Destwin, Meier was with Valiant Energy Solutions (formerly known as BantamWesson and Wesson Energy) for two years, giving her a total of 11 years in the energy industry. At Destwin she has spearheaded the company’s active involvement with Young Gassers, Women in Energy and Women in Propane. She has also been involved with Vets 2 Techs, which helps veterans secure fulfilling careers in the oil and propane industry.

President of Young Gassers Nick Virchow, regional solutions manager with Anova, said “We are extremely fortunate to have two talented and capable new industry professionals join our leadership team. We know Rachel and Evan will make significant contributions to the Young Gassers organization as we prepare for a very exciting road ahead.”

Membership in Young Gassers is open to industry professionals of all ages. The mission of the 65-year-old organization is to “foster and sustain personal and professional relationships among all members of the propane gas industry.” The organization is 100% supported through contributions from individuals and corporate sponsors and is committed to both making annual scholarships available, and supporting the National Museum of Industrial History and its Propane Exhibit.
