Disclaimer: The following letter was written by NPGA Preisdent and CEO Steve Kaminski in response to the loss of life and damage caused by Hurricane Helene. The original letter was published Oct. 3 on NPGA's site.

Hurricane Helene wrought crushing devastation in the Southeast. In addition to decimating coastal areas, the storm’s impact hundreds of miles inland ravaged a large swath of propane country. I know many NPGA members and their customers are suffering tremendous losses, the toll of which is not yet fully understood. Our prayers are with those facing these unimaginable circumstances. Stories of our industry’s grit and commitment to help our communities are just starting to emerge. It makes me so proud to be a member of the propane community.

In a few days, the hurricane will be out of the headline news. But our propane family is committed to lessening the burden on those impacted by Helene and to supporting long term recovery efforts in the Southeast. To that end, I invite you to join me in supporting Operation BBQ Relief as it deploys teams in the Southeast in response to Hurricane Helene. Operation BBQ Relief’s fleet of cooks, mobile pits, kitchens, and volunteers delivers the healing power of propane-fueled BBQ to disaster-affected communities, offering solace to residents, first responders, and relief workers.

Use this link to donate directly from your mobile device. As you may know, NPGA is a champion of Operation BBQ Relief along with long-time supporters Ferrellgas/Blue Rhino. NPGA’s Young Professionals Council is partnering with this amazing organization for their very first Days of Service on October 2 and 4. Your financial support helps Operation BBQ Relief continue to serve communities in the Southeast and nationwide. Thank you for your generosity!

Today, state and regional associations in impacted areas are providing leadership to the propane industry. NPGA members are actively securing tanks across the impacted region to ensure the safety of affected homes and businesses across Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and the Carolinas. Many families are relying on propane generators for electricity and using their propane grills for cooking. Our propane marketers are supplying fuel for essential needs such as heating water, powering hospitals and cell towers, and cleanup efforts. They are collaborating with emergency services, providing tanks for mobile kitchens, and working with Operation BBQ Relief to deliver meals to those in need. It is heartening to know propane truly makes a difference and I thank the entire NPGA community for its contributions at this crucial time.
