From the NPGA Bobtail newsletter. The Chippewa County Board of Commissioners recently passed a resolution in support of the Great Lakes Tunnel in the Straits of Mackinac.  Chippewa County joins 32 other Michigan counties favoring construction of the tunnel.

Enbridge plans to build a four-mile tunnel deep under the Straits of Mackinac to house a new segment of the Line 5 pipeline — ensuring an uninterrupted supply of reliable, affordable energy to the state of Michigan.

“The overwhelming support from our counties underscores how an infrastructure project to advance the region’s energy security while protecting our waterways transcends political lines,” said Anna Mooney, Enbridge government relations manager.

Mooney reiterated the commissioners’ actions reflect the preference of the majority of Michiganders — more than 70 percent of whom support construction of the Great Lakes Tunnel Project. The tunnel will house Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline and serve as a utility corridor to connect Michigan’s peninsulas.
