Canadian underground propane inventories in August grew 8.5% to record a month-over-month gain of 126.5 Mcm, according to the National Energy Board (NEB). As of Sept. 1, stocks stood at 1611.2 Mcm, the equivalent of 10.2 MMbbl. Compared to a year earlier, however, volumes were off 165.6 Mcm, or 9.3%.

Propane storages in the West advanced 6.7% in August, gaining 54.4 Mcm to end the month at 860.4 Mcm, or 5.4 MMbbl. Compared to the previous year, inventories were lower by 121.5 Mcm, or 12.4%. In the East, monthly stocks increased a steeper 72.1 Mcm, or 10.6%, and entered September at 750.8 Mcm, or 4.7 MMbbl. Compared to the prior year, eastern supplies were down 44.2 Mcm, or 5.6%.

Canadian butane inventories ended August at 949.6 Mcm, with volumes climbing 76.3 Mcm for an 8.7% gain. A year-over-year comparison shows butane in storage standing 47.6 Mcm lower, or by 4.8%. Western stockpiles added 27.6 Mcm for a 5.6% improvement, while eastern supplies advanced 48.7 Mcm, or 12.8%. For the year, butane in the West was up 41.3 Mcm, or 8.6%, while in the East volumes were off 88.9 Mcm, or 17.2%.
