Alkane Truck Co. (Myrtle Beach, S.C.), a new original equipment manufacturer of propane and CNG alternative fuel commercial trucks, is offering Class 7 and 8 cab-over trucks. Alkane’s Class 7 trucks are offered in both 26,000 and 33,000 GVW weight classes. The power train is a Power Solutions International (Wood Dale, Ill.) 8.8-liter engine coupled with a 2500 Series Allison six-speed automatic transmission.
The 100% propane-powered fuel system is durability tested and proven by Bi-Phase Technologies (Eagan, Minn.) The truck will be in full production in the first quarter of next year. Triad Services Group of Madison Heights, Mich. has completed the engineering, modification, and integration of all the power components. Alkane’s integration and assembly is completed at the company’s 100,000-sq-ft facility in Summerville, S.C.
“As locals living and working in South Carolina we feel very fortunate to be able to build our business in the great state of South Carolina,” said Steve Rayborn, vice president of global sales. “We will be hiring well over 300 automotive technicians and adding employees as we continue to expand our business to include additional models. With manufacturing neighbors such as Boeing, BMW, and Volvo we are definitely in good company.”
Alkane Truck Co. will sell vehicles through its established network of 130 truck dealership locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. The cab and chassis can be fitted with various bodies from a variety of suppliers to accommodate niche market needs that include the general delivery industry, the beverage delivery industry, the refuse industry, and the propane delivery industry.
