The National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) reports the Standards Council of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) met in April 2020 to consider business related to NFPA 58 and other standards of interest to the propane industry. With three proposed tentative interim amendments (TIA) before the Council, only one was issued. TIA Log No. 1481 will revise the ASME container marking requirements in 5.2.8.3(C) and 11.3.4(B)(13) in the 2020 edition of NFPA 58 to no longer require a marking of the type of construction of the container on the nameplate affixed to the container. This is the result of a previous change to the requirements in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

The Standards Council also approved the appointment of Robert Blackwell of Independent Propane Company as a principal member of the NFPA 58 Technical Committee on LP-Gases, along with David Kennedy of Blossman Gas as his alternate. NPGA also gained a seat on the Fuel Gases Warning Equipment technical committee with the appointment of senior technical advisor, Bruce Swiecicki. This committee is currently working on the first edition of NFPA 715 Standard for the Installation of Fuel Gases Detection and Warning Equipment.
