(STARBUCK, MINN.) July 10, 2016 – Deciding to retire after 12 years of service, the owners of Lucky’s Propane, Randy and Jackie Elmer, have sold their propane delivery and service company to CHS Inc., the nation’s leading farmer-owned cooperative. The Lucky’s Propane business will become part of CHS Prairie Lakes, a full-service ag retail business for CHS based out of Starbuck, Minn. The transaction was finalized on June 23, 2016. Financial details were not disclosed.
“We have been blessed to have spent these past twelve years working with such wonderful customers, and we have confidence that they will be in good hands with CHS Prairie Lakes. We will miss working with everyone, but we are excited for this next adventure!” says Lucky’s owners, Randy and Jackie.
"CHS Prairie Lakes has a strong history of maintaining propane supply during cold winters when supply is tight, and our safety program and procedures are some of the best,” says Steve Gorder, CHS Prairie Lakes energy manager and 21-year veteran in the energy business. He also currently serves as Secretary on the Minnesota Propane Education Promotion and Safety Council.
“We are also excited to bring Lucky’s current driver, Justin Evavold, to our team to ensure Lucky’s customers continue to receive the personal service they have come to expect from their propane provider,” Gorder says.
Customers should expect a smooth transition with little changes in day-to-day service. Formed in 2004, Lucky’s Propane Inc. provided residential, commercial, and agricultural propane to customers in and around the communities of Douglas and surrounding counties.
CHS Prairie Lakes provides agronomy, energy, grain marketing and related products and services to farmers and other customers from eight locations in western Minnesota. It is part of CHS Inc., leading U.S. agribusiness owned by farmers, ranchers and cooperatives across the United States. Diversified in energy, grains and foods, CHS is committed to helping its customers, farmer-owners and other stakeholders grow their businesses through its domestic and global operations. CHS, a Fortune 100 company, supplies energy, crop nutrients, grain marketing services, animal feed, food and food ingredients, along with business solutions including insurance, financial and risk management services. The company operates petroleum refineries/pipelines and manufactures, markets and distributes Cenex® brand refined fuels, lubricants, propane and renewable energy products.
