Alliance AutoGas has won the North Carolina Clean Energy Technology Center’s 2015 Mobile CARE Fuel Provider award. Mike Phillips, municipal and law enforcement specialist, received the award on behalf of Alliance AutoGas from Nick Tennyson, North Carolina Department of Transportation chief deputy secretary. Businesses that support the expansion of advanced transportation technology, including producers, marketers, and distributors of alternative fuel vehicles, vehicle components, fuel, and related refueling equipment, were eligible for the award. Others recognized were Gaston County, Orange County, the town of Knightdale, Raleigh, and The Produce Box, all of which are Alliance AutoGas customers.
The eighth annual North Carolina Mobile CARE (Clean Air Renewable Energy) awards, sponsored by the North Carolina Clean Energy Technology Center (NCCETC) and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT) to recognize outstanding transportation air quality leadership, were presented at the inaugural Southwest Alternative Fuel Conference & Expo at the Raleigh Convention Center.
NCCETC and DOT recognized organizations and individuals across the state that are helping to lead the way to reduced transportation emissions and increased efficiency. In the spring, NCCETC launched the Smart Fleet Initiative, a new effort of the Mobile CARE program that focuses exclusively on fleet commitment and accomplishments in reducing petroleum use and reducing emissions. North Carolina fleets, both public and private, join Smart Fleet on one
of three levels by completing an application.
“In order to reduce emissions and enhance transportation efficiency, it is essential to account for fuel use and undertake efforts to conserve and use more low-carbon fuels,” said Ann Tazewell, transportation manager at NCCETC. “We are proud in our inaugural year to be recognizing 18 fleets for their initiatives in reducing fuel use and increasing fuel diversity.”
