Christina Miller shares what she's excited about learning in the propane industry

Describe your new role at BPN.

My new editing position at BPN encompasses various responsibilities to ensure content quality and coherence. This role requires effective collaboration with writers and my BPN team to elevate the overall quality of content. I am excited to be a new addition to the BPN team and to expand my knowledge of the propane industry.

What are you most excited to learn about the industry?

I am excited to dig into the versatility of propane as a fuel and the environmental benefits. Propane can be used to heat homes, power vehicles and cook, as well as for industrial applications. The broad range of uses makes it a topic of interest. It is also considered a cleaner burning fuel compared to some of the other alternative fuel sources, so the sustainability aspect of propane also sounds interesting.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

Meticulous, adaptable and dedicated. As an editor, I have honed my attention to detail to ensure the quality of the content I work with is up to par. Being adaptable also comes with the territory of editing. I have encountered diverse writing styles and genres, requiring flexibility to adapt my approach accordingly.

I am dedicated to not only enhancing content to the best of my ability, but I am also committed to the teams I collaborate with to make the editing process as efficient and pleasant as possible.

What keeps you motivated professionally?

The prospect of continuously learning and helping people by providing valuable information is a huge motivating factor, as well as a dedication to refining and perfecting the written word. Being a bit of a perfectionist comes in handy when editing, which just pushes me to want to learn more and better my craft.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

My first mentor at my first professional editing position said, “Every editor needs their own editor.” This small piece of advice has shaped the way that I edit, think about editing and how I write. It took some of the pressure off my shoulders as a new editor, scared to make any mistakes, and put into perspective that everyone is human, and it is normal to make mistakes.

How do you keep your skills up to date/continually focus on personal career growth?

Reading is a valuable tool for keeping skills up to date and fostering personal career growth. Reading helps keep me informed of industry trends of not only what is going on in what I am editing but also how I am editing. Editing rules change constantly, so reading and talking with other people in the same field also helps. Apart from reading and networking, mentorship and setting goals have also been beneficial ways for me to grow in my career.

What do you do to relax and unwind after a day of work?

After a day of work, I like to work out with a friend. Working out after work clearly helps physical health, but it also helps with mental health, increasing energy levels and long-term health benefits. While the initial effort to work out after a long workday may seem challenging, it improves my mood and relieves some stress.

Plus, who doesn’t love the empowering feeling of turning the post-office slump into a triumphant workout session? After working out, I enjoy dinner and watch some TV. By the end of the night, I am relaxed and more prepared to work the next day.

What is the most important core value a company can have?

Integrity is the most important value that a company can have. Integrity encompasses honesty, transparency and ethical behavior. It forms the foundation for trust among employees, customers and partners, fostering a positive and sustainable business environment.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I have been in the world’s largest bounce house, which covered an area of just over 16,000 square feet and towered 32 feet from the ground to the turrets.

What’s the last thing you read?

The last book I read was “Dial A for Aunties,” which I read with my cousin. We ended up chatting about the differences and similarities of the aunties in the books and our aunties in real life. It was a fun read.
