During October, Breast Cancer Awareness month, BPN continues its series of profiles of the many propane companies throughout the United States that support a breast cancer-related organization or cause. BPN is pleased to highlight Griffin Oil & Propane, a local, family owned business in Virginia, that has been serving thousands of residential and commercial propane customers in the City of Suffolk and Southampton, Isle of Wight, Sussex and Surry Counties, and surrounding areas since 1938. Several years ago, as a precursor to Breast Cancer Awareness month, Griffin Oil & Propane hit the road with a striking pink propane delivery truck and a plan to donate a portion of the proceeds from its deliveries to the American Cancer Society’s Virginia Beach office. Griffin Oil & Propane is dedicated to helping people who have been affected by any form of cancer, and the importance to keep pushing for a cure.
Today, Griffin’s pink truck rolls along an estimated 20,000 miles per year delivering propane and contributes thousands of dollars annually to the local American Cancer Society chapter. Every day as the pink truck rolls down the road or stops to make a delivery, it serves as a reminder of the thousands of people who have been affected by any form of cancer, and the importance to keep pushing for a cure.
“Cancer affects people throughout the communities we serve. Employees, neighbors, and friends all have a personal experience about how cancer has impacted their lives. As a commitment to these communities, Griffin Oil & Propane hopes our pink propane truck can serve as a reminder to the importance of cancer research, as well as a reminder of the families it has affected,” said Christiaan Pond, Vice President of Griffin Oil & Propane.
“It is of utmost importance that the money donated stays within our communities. By donating directly to the American Cancer Society, Griffin Oil & Propane can make the biggest impact providing contributions that are used locally, and more importantly be applied where the American Cancer Society feels it is needed most,” said Pond. “This is a way Griffin can participate in a cause that is much greater than us. Our families have been personally affected by cancer just like thousands of others all around the country. This is a situation that is all too common; hopefully seeing a big pink truck driving down the road will serve as a way to raise awareness to everyone affected.”
