    (CHATSWORTH, Calif.) May 10, 2016 — Capstone Turbine Corporation, a leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, announced today that it received an order for a C800 microturbine to power a large hotel in the Caribbean region. Energy Systems of Caribbean, Capstone’s distributor for the Caribbean region and Puerto Rico, secured the order.   • ‘History of Propane’ Exhibit to Open as Part of Smithsonian-Affiliated Museum

    After more than 20 years in the making, an exhibit at the National Museum of Industrial History in Bethlehem, Pa. featuring “The History of Propane” will open this August. The museum will tell the story of America’s industrial achievements and celebrate the accomplishments of inventors, industrialists, and workers, while preserving a record of industry’s advancements from the mid-1800s to the present. Foundations of American industry such as steel, textiles, and of course, propane, will be showcased alongside significant items from the Smithsonian’s Work and Industry Collections.   • Florida City Reduces Fuel Costs and Air Pollution with Propane Autogas Shuttles

    FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 11, 2016) — With a 20 percent reduction in fuel costs, LeeTran has added more propane autogas-fueled shuttles to its paratransit fleet this month. These new vehicles increase the public transit agency’s propane fleet to 20, or 45 percent of its entire paratransit fleet. “We are converting our vehicles to operate on propane autogas for a number of reasons. It’s an American made fuel with significant environmental benefits; converting to propane infrastructure is more affordable; and propane autogas offers lower fuels prices,” said Robert Southall, maintenance manager of LeeTran, the public transit provider for Lee County. “Currently, we are paying about 50 cents per gallon for propane autogas compared to about $1.46 for diesel, which is on the rise.” LeeTran provides…

  • Company Started With an Idea That Was Almost Laughed Off

    As Full-Circle of Newbury Park, Calif. celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, Walt Smith reflected on how the company started with an off-hand remark. He and sales manager John Ives were setting up a booth at the Western Propane Gas Association convention in 1991 for his company, Smith Precision Products Co., which has been in business since 1938. Bob Bailey, president of Teeco Products but who was then with PACA (Pacific Carburetion Assemblies Inc.), wanted to discuss an idea he had for a swivel at the end of a bobtail delivery hose to connect the hose to the filler valve. “I wasn’t paying a whole lot of attention.   • Grand Opening for Arro Autogas’ Newest Refueling Station in California

    Arro Autogas, in partnership with the San Joaquin Valley Clean Cities Coalition and the City of Exeter, Calif. opened its newest public propane autogas refueling station in California. Located in the central California city of Exeter, the refueling station was unveiled during a grand opening on March 22. Dignitaries included Exeter city officials, local and state government representatives and police and fire officials. The event concluded with an up-close view of the new station and a question-and-answer session with Linda Urata, Clean Cities executive chair and coordinator.     About five years ago, after Bill Moore began working at Conger LP Gas (Tifton, Ga.), he started programs to grow the company’s agriculture business. Conger LP Gas serves more than 5000 residential, commercial, and agricultural customers. As alternative fuels sales manager, Moore oversees the company’s 150 square miles of sales territory, which covers 28 counties in South Georgia. Initially, he concentrated on marketing autogas and lawn mower conversions, but as the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) began offering an incentive program to educate the farming community, Moore’s focus expanded as the company pursued a more aggressive strategy in the agricultural segment of its business.   • Propane Sales Advance Nearly 5.8% in 2014

    Sales of odorized propane in the U.S. climbed nearly 5.8% in 2014 compared to a year earlier, marking the second year in a row sales accelerated and reversed a years-long sales decline.o The “2014 Sales of Natural Gas Liquids and Liquefied Refinery Gases” survey, prepared by the American Petroleum Institute’s (API) statistics department, shows year-on-year propane sales gaining almost 5.1 million gallons to stand at more than 9.3 billion gallons for the latest reporting period. Further, all end-use categories measured—residential, commercial, sales to retailers, internal combustion, industrial, and agricultural—showed improvement over 2013 tallies.   • PERC’s New Educational Campaign Rolled Out “Blue” in Nashville

    The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) rolled out elements of its new consumer education campaign in April at the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) Southeastern Convention in Nashville. The new endeavor features a dog named “Blue,” who is the companion of a propane delivery driver. In the campaign, Blue will talk about how propane customers can live an independent, cozy lifestyle by using propane, as scenes depict families cooking a meal with propane, using outdoor living appliances, and grilling food in a modern outdoor patio. The campaign is designed to raise consumer awareness of propane and make consumers view the fuel more favorably.   • Community Propane Systems Advanced by House Energy & Commerce Committee

    WASHINGTON, DC (April 27, 2016) – The House Energy & Commerce Committee approved an amendment this week to H.R. 5050, the Pipeline Safety Act of 2016, to include a study on the regulations affecting propane jurisdictional systems. The manager’s amendment, offered by Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Ranking Member Frank Pallone (D-NJ), was approved by a voice vote and included in the Committee’s passage of H.R. 5050. Under the current regulatory framework, propane systems that serve more than 10 customers from a single tank, or more than two if the system crosses a public way, are subject to Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) jurisdiction and regulations.   • Arizona School District Adds 73 Blue Bird Propane School Buses to Fleet

    PHOENIX (April 20, 2016) — Propane autogas continues to gain momentum among school districts throughout the U.S. as the clean-burning alternative fuel of choice for school bus fleets. This includes the recent upgrade of 73 school buses to propane autogas by the Kyrene School District in Arizona. The District now runs 85 percent of its school bus fleet on propane autogas. Propane autogas is less expensive than diesel, easier to service, reduces harmful emissions, requires less maintenance, and is much quieter than their diesel counterparts. The Kyrene school district started with propane autogas in 2014 when it purchased 25 Blue Bird Vision Propane-Powered buses.
