Tribal RFP for Diesel Emissions Reduction Program (DERA)

(December 13, 2017) — The funding opportunity for tribal governments and Alaska native villages is open for eligible entities. EPA’s Office of Transportation and Air Quality is soliciting proposals nationwide for Tribal projects that achieve significant reductions in diesel emissions in terms of tons of pollution produced by diesel engines and diesel emissions exposure, particularly from fleets located in areas designated as having poor air quality. EPA anticipates awarding $1.5 million in DERA grant funding under this announcement. Requests For Proposals are due January 18, 2018.

Eligible entities include tribal governments (or intertribal consortia) and Alaska native villages which have jurisdiction over transportation or air quality.

Eligible diesel vehicles, engines and equipment may include buses, Class 5 – Class 8 heavy-duty highway vehicles, marine engines, locomotives and non-road engines, equipment or vehicles used in construction, handling of cargo (including at a port or airport), agriculture, mining or energy production (including stationary generators and pumps).

Eligible diesel emission reduction solutions include Environmental Protection Agency or California Air Resources Board verified emission control technologies such as exhaust controls, cleaner fuels, engine upgrades, idle reduction technologies, aerodynamic technologies, low rolling resistance tires, certified engine repowers, and/or certified vehicle or equipment replacement.
