October 18 is the start of Washington State’s official 18-day voting period. This year, voters will be presented with two ballot initiatives that have a direct and substantial impact on the state’s propane marketplace. The National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) and Pacific Propane Gas Association (PPGA) have endorsed both initiatives and promoted a YES vote on I-2066 and I-2117.
- Initiative No. 2066. This initiative would prevent local governments, air control agencies, and the state building code council from prohibiting, penalizing, or discouraging the use of gas across the buildings sector. This initiative would ensure citizens retain the right to decide for themselves what types of energy best meet their specific needs and unique situation.
- Initiative No. 2117. This initiative would repeal the state’s cap-and-invest carbon pricing scheme and prohibit state agencies from imposing any type of carbon tax trading program on consumers. Repealing the state’s cap-and-invest program would reduce the price of propane and ensure it remains a competitive energy option for consumers.
In addition to voting, NPGA encourages voters to participate in the following to support these ballot initiatives:
Talk to your customers about the importance of these initiatives; Discuss these initiatives with your employees and industry colleagues; Consider volunteering to help educate voters and generate support; Consider making a financial contribution to supportive efforts.
