GRAHAM, N.C. — The Southeast Propane Alliance Technical Education Center (SEPATEC) has announced the expansion of its entry-level driver training (ELDT) program for 2025, aimed at preparing individuals for a commercial driver’s license (CDL-B). With classes set to begin every Monday (excluding weeks with federal holidays), SEPATEC is set to enroll prospective students into its comprehensive program.

Having successfully trained and graduated over 100 students from its CDL-B ELDT program so far, SEPATEC addresses the increasing demand for qualified propane drivers. The organization has invested in several vehicles, upgraded its classrooms and developed an enhanced curriculum to support its expanded offerings. Unlike other programs that cost $5,000 or more, this employer-driven program, led by the industry, provides significant cost and time savings as a benefit of SEPA membership, which includes ownership of the training institution and equipment.

SEPATEC’s CDL-B program complies with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, ensuring that all participants receive a quality education and training. The program includes vital elements such as theoretical training, Behind the Wheel experience, and rigorous testing requirements. These aspects are aimed at equipping students with the skills needed for success in the propane industry. The program is open to individuals aged 21 and older, with a maximum of five participants permitted per class each week.

To enroll, participants must obtain a Medical Examiner’s Card and a State CDL Permit. The total cost for the program is $3,400, with full payment required from individual enrollees. However, participating companies may arrange for invoicing, and financing options are available for qualifying personnel.

"Our training not only prepares students for the CDL B license but also incorporates vital Hazmat theory sessions aligned with federal requirements," said Kimberly Moser, the program’s lead instructor. "We are committed to providing practical skills instruction, including backup maneuvers, alley docking, and a road course, ensuring our graduates are ready for real-world challenges."
