  • Two Propane Emergency Responder Training Sessions Offered In New York

    (August 15, 2018) — Two Emergency Responder Training Programs will be held in September at the New York State Fire Academy in Montour Falls, New York. A three-day Emergency Responder session that fulfills the 24-hour course requirement to become an Emergency Responder (CFR 1910) is scheduled September 11-13, 2018. A one-day Emergency Responder Refresher Training Program will also be held on September 13, 2018. These safety training courses are funded in part by the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), the New York Propane Gas Association (NYPGA) Emergency Response Committee, and the New York Propane Education & Research Council (NYPERC).   • Hands-On Autogas Technician Training Customized for Iowa Techs

    You shouldn’t have to drive 100 miles to service an autogas vehicle. That being compulsory, it follows that few would adopt propane as an alternative fleet fuel. But the industry and its fellow stakeholders endeavor to eliminate market barriers and facilitate switching to autogas. Toward that end, nearly 20 automotive technicians received hands-on and classroom instruction under the sponsorship of the Iowa Propane Education & Research Council (IPERC) and the national PERC in mid-June at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.   • PERC Talks Forklifts, Supply, Outreach, Training, and More

    The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) held a daylong public meeting in Atlanta on April 5, ahead of the National Propane Gas Association’s (NPGA) 2018 Southeastern Convention & International Propane Expo. Presentations, discussions, and deliberations filled the day, and a plethora of topics were covered. Brian Feehan, a former PERC staff member who is now president of the Industrial Truck Association, discussed the status of forklift trucks and their energy options. Data presented showed steady growth of forklift sales from a low of 98,000 in 2009 to 253,000 in 2017. In 1994, electric forklift sales had a 52% advantage to the internal combustion models’ 48%.   • Free Autogas Training Courses Offered by National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium

    During the recent Work Truck Show, Michael Smyth, interim director of the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC) at West Virginia University (Morgantown, WV), updated Clean Cities Coalition representatives about new training programs offered by the consortium. Created by an Act of Congress, NAFTC is an alliance that provides training on Alternative Fuels with courses taught in two- and four-year community colleges nationwide. Four years ago, NAFTC began a partnership with the Propane Education & Research (PERC) Council to furnish new training programs for propane autogas. The programs serve technicians, fleets, and retail propane marketers, alike.   • FMCSA Establishes National Training Standards for New Truck and Bus Drivers

    WASHINGTON, DC (Dec. 7, 2016) – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) today announced a Final Rule establishing comprehensive national minimum training standards for entry-level commercial truck and bus operators seeking to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) or certain endorsements. The standards established in today’s rule address the knowledge and skills necessary for the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles and also establish minimum qualifications for entities and individuals who provide entry-level driver training.   • Oregon Community College Pairs Alternative Fuel Training With Jobs

    Oregon’s Linn-Benton Community College (LBCC) has just completed another phase of its Advanced Transportation Technology Center (ATTC), which hosts programs that train technicians to install, maintain, and repair vehicles fueled by alternative energies such as propane. Nearly 300 people attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony in October marking the completion of the center’s second phase and the opening of the Innovation Center and Heavy Transportation building, a 37,000-sq-ft space that will be used to train technicians to work on heavy equipment. Among the guests were U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden and U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio, Oregon lawmakers who have been strong supporters of Linn-Benton Community College’s alternative fuel training efforts.     The National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium a program of West Virginia University, spent much of 2016 traveling the United States training automotive technicians to repair and maintain propane autogas vehicles utilizing its Propane Autogas Vehicle Technician Training curriculum. Now this curriculum and training program has been recognized by the automotive training industry for its outstanding quality. The Propane Autogas Vehicle Technician Training is a three-day course which focuses on servicing and maintaining propane autogas vehicles safely.
