  • PERC’s 2016 Market Outreach Plans

    New construction, remodels, and switching out products such as water heaters that use other energy sources will be the key areas of focus of the Propane Education & Research Council’s (PERC) 2016 Residential & Commercial Market Outreach Plan, which the council approved at its meeting Nov. 5 and 6 in Boca Raton, Fla. The council approved a $47.6-million budget that includes a consumer marketing campaign, ongoing outreach programs aimed at key market sectors, safety and training, and research and development programs. PERC offered some insight on how its outreach programs will work now that its consumer education activity has been restored after a six-year restriction triggered by a Commerce Department price analysis in 2009.   • Year-End Report: State Associations’ Work Continues As 2015 Winds Down

    The state propane gas associations continued advocating for members in 2015, working in areas such as increasing membership, preventing natural gas expansion, enacting state propane education and research councils, and offering training courses to members. The association presidents — primarily propane marketers — help to lead those efforts. All of the state association presidents, chairs, and executive directors featured in this article expressed pride in the quality of services they offer to propane marketers, which also include providing a voice on state legislation, overseeing special events and conventions, and holding back on over-regulation.   • IEA: Low Prices No Cause for Energy Security Complacency

    The ongoing extended period of lower oil prices, while a benefit to consumers, also triggers energy-security concerns by heightening reliance on just a small number of low-cost producers, notes the Paris-based International Energy Agency (IEA) in its flagship 2015 World Energy Outlook released Nov. 10. Another risk is a sharp price rebound if energy investment falls short.
