  • Trump Requests $11.6 Billion for Interior Department 2018 Budget

U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke has outlined that President Trump’s $11.6-billion 2017 budget blueprint request for the Department of the Interior meets the department’s core mission while also saving taxpayers $1.5 billion, or a 12% reduction, from the 2017 annualized continuing resolution level. The president’s budget prioritizes America’s energy security by increasing funding for programs that support responsible development of oil, natural gas, coal, and renewable energy on public lands and off-shore waters. The blueprint also sustains funding for the department’s collection and disbursement of about $10 billion annually for mineral development, an important source of revenue for the Treasury, states, and Indian mineral owners. The president’s budget directly supports funding for land management operations for the National Park Service, Fish and Wildlife…

  • Invest in Employee Development, Reap Rewards

… By Kelly Bosak When evaluating your business it is important to remember that people are your most important asset. It is the people in your organization that control whether or not your organization succeeds. When thinking about the people in your organization consider the following three messages: succession planning is necessary, reduce workplace conflict, and improve your bottom line. First, succession planning is necessary, and mentoring fills your leadership pipeline. Employees who receive mentoring are promoted five times more often than those who do not. Further, mentors are six times more likely to be promoted. People are 77% more likely to stay in a job if they are in a mentoring relationship—particularly the younger generations. Thirty five percent of employees who do not receive…

  • East Chicago Schools Acquire Six Environmentally-friendly Propane School Buses to Fleet

EAST CHICAGO, Ill. (March 20, 2017) — East Chicago public school students are now riding to school on six new propane-powered buses, thanks in part to a grant awarded by BP’s Whiting Refinery, as reported in the Chicago Tribune last Friday. Paige McNulty, superintendent of East Chicago schools, remarked that when she came on board as new superintendent last August, the district already was planning to buy new school buses. McNulty said Transportation Manager, Robert Garcia, suggested the district compare the benefits of using propane-powered school buses versus diesel, and so the district investigated the two types of fuel. "We decided that was the way to go," McNulty said last Monday. "It's more ecologically safe for our community with much less emissions. It also will…

  • This Fish Story Is a “Whopper”

By Connie M. Smith … In these times of declining gallons, dealers are constantly looking for new ways to increase sales and add new burner tips. Sometimes that takes thinking outside the box—way outside the box in this case. Growing fish in the middle of a field in the heartland of America is certainly not the average agricultural use, but in this case, it certainly has grown gallons sold. Jay Hansen never thought he’d be delivering propane to a fish farm. Since starting his propane career in 1989 with Ferrellgas, and becoming part of the AgVantage FS (Waverly, Iowa) sales/delivery team in 2007, Hansen had filled tanks for the typical corn dryers, hog buildings, farm homes, and businesses. He also built relationships with his customers,…
