  • Autogas Pavilion Advances Awareness of Propane For Vehicle Use

The United Propane AutoGas Solutions (UPAS Group), was 2018 sponsor of the Autogas Pavilion at the NPGA Southeastern Convention and strives to unite interested propane autogas beneficiaries to promote the advancement of propane use in vehicles and equipment as a viable, safe, clean, affordable, and recognized alternative fuel for the future, while utilizing one of America’s own natural resources. Its mission is to create a group of “hands-on” technical members that are dedicated to working together to promote autogas and continue building the propane industry. Its goals are to have everyone involved from propane vehicle systems manufacturers, system installers and service points, manufacturers and installers of fueling infrastructure, propane fuel suppliers, propane fuel retailers, and fleet administrators, to be able to provide education and solutions…

  • Steel and Aluminum Tariff Exclusion Process Clarified by DOC

Washington, DC (April 10, 2018) — The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) has published procedures for excluding products from the recently announced tariffs on steel and aluminum product imports. As directed by President Trump, the department has published the procedures in the Federal Register and has started accepting exclusion requests from U.S. industry. “These procedures will allow the administration to further hone these tariffs to ensure they protect our national security while also minimizing undue impact on downstream American industries,” said DOC Secretary Wilbur Ross. “Starting [March 19], domestic industry will be able to apply for exclusions through a fair and transparent process run through Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security.” Ross, in consultation with other administration officials, will evaluate exclusion requests, taking into account…

  • Reality of Steel Tariffs Adjustment For Tank Manufacturers

Propane tank manufacturers have been coping with a rising cost of steel, and they will have to continue to do so as the recently announced tariff on imported steel goes into effect. As outlined, the 25% tariff is to apply to imports from all countries except Canada and Mexico. Under certain circumstances, additional countries or industries may be exempted in the future. The tariff and a 10% tariff on aluminum imports were announced in presidential proclamations March 8. As this was written, they were to begin March 23, 2018. The price of steel had already been rising. Market participants had seen in advance the possibility of the tariffs, because the U.S. Department of Commerce had been conducting Section 232 investigations, which help determine the effects…

  • Alliance AutoGas Unveils Ford F-150 Fuel System

Alliance AutoGas (AAG) Asheville, NC, has introduced a new propane port fuel direct injection (P-PFDI) conversion system for the 2018 Ford F-150 with either a 3.3-liter, V-6 or 5.0- liter, V-8 engine. The system, which relies on Ford’s new dual-injection, continues to utilize the in-cylinder injectors to provide gasoline as a combustion lubricant while using the port injectors to supply propane autogas. “Propane autogas is the most popular alternative fuel worldwide, proven in more than 28 million vehicles,” said Ed Hoffman, president of Alliance AutoGas’s parent company, Blossman Services (Ocean Springs, Miss.). He adds that is thanks to the fuel’s low cost, easy implementation, and suitable combustion characteristics. Beyond that, autogas also burns cleaner than conventional gasoline. Alliance AutoGas says its new P-PFDI system puts…

  • Ash from Ancient Volcanoes Linked With Shale Oil, Gas

(March 26, 2018) — Nutrient-rich ash from an enormous flare-up of volcanic eruptions toward the end of the dinosaurs’ reign kicked off a chain of events that led to the formation of shale gas and oil fields from Texas to Montana. That’s the conclusion of a new study by Rice University geologists that appears in Nature Publishing’s online journal Scientific Reports. “One of the things about these shale deposits is they occur in certain periods in earth’s history, and one of those is the Cretaceous time, which is around the time of the dinosaurs,” said study lead author Cin-Ty Lee, professor and chair of Rice University’s Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences. “This was about 90 million to 100 million years ago, which is…

  • Coalition Seeks to Support Louisiana’s Energy Industry

Supporters of Louisiana’s oil and gas economy recently launched Louisianians for Energy, a grass-roots effort to defend the state’s energy industry and the broad array of economic benefits it creates for local community members. Louisianians for Energy’s initial members include the Louisiana Propane Gas Association (LPGA) and more than 2300 online supporters. Louisianians for Energy will advocate for investment in the state’s oil and gas resources. The coalition explains that Louisiana’s energy industry requires timely investments in its infrastructure in order to continue operating safely and efficiently. Further, energy has long been a pillar of the state’s economy, providing good-paying jobs, generating millions of dollars in revenue for local economies, and producing the energy resources that consumers across the country rely on each and every…

  • Colorado Petroleum Council Applauds Defeat of Bill

The Colorado Petroleum Council (CPC) is applauding the Colorado Senate for recently voting down an anti-energy bill it maintains would have slowed, or even potentially halted, energy development in the state. CPC had testified in opposition to H.B. 18-1071. The legislation was rejected by a Senate committee with bipartisan support. “Democrats and Republicans in the state Senate were right to reject this destructive bill as it would circumvent our judicial system and erode the checks and balances that underpin our state’s democracy,” CPC executive direcdirector Tracee Bentley said. “This bill also would have threatened the fiscal health of our state with substantial financial impacts, which are not reflected in the current fiscal note. “Our state should not rewrite the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission’s…

  • Moving the Mail—Trucks Roll with Winter Cold

(March 19, 2018) — It’s a safe bet that bulk plants were churning faster this past winter compared to the previous two, even absent a stinging Polar Vortex. But there was a new and widely reported storm phenomenon moniker — a bomb cyclone that unleashed freezing blizzard conditions across wide areas. Overall, more sustained wintry cold meant trucks had to roll. Two transportation companies wheeling to meet ramped-up demand were Etchberger Trucking Inc. of Freeport, Ill. and C Three Logistics LLC of Newfield, N.J., both headed by customer-focused, next-generation owners. Kris Etchberger of Etchberger Trucking and Henry Papiano of C Three Logistics founded their common carrier operations in recent years, following their fathers into the industry after previously working in the family businesses. Etchberger observes that this…

  • New LPG Filtration System Benefits Autogas Fleets

(March 19, 2018) — Alliance AutoGas (Swannanoa, N.C.) has aligned with Donaldson Co. (Valencia, Calif.) to release a new line of clean LPG filters that remove potentially harmful particulate matter and heavy ends from propane systems. The filters were designed specifically for the propane industry. While it’s common for gasoline and diesel fuels to be filtered multiple times as they are transported to an end-user, propane has historically not been filtered. As propane, or in this use, autogas, has gained popularity as a transportation fuel, the need for consistent fuel quality has become greater for fleet customers. Two new filters, available from Alliance AutoGas (AAG) and Donaldson Co., have been explicitly designed to eliminate potential fuel contamination issues with autogas fuel dispenser systems. A highly…
