August 2026 Canadian Propane Inventories Up From July

The August 2026 Canadian propane inventories increased by 32.8% from July, according to the Canada Energy Regulator (CER). The total represented a month-to-month increase of 369.7 Mcm. Compared to a year earlier, stocks were higher, with 243.1 Mcm, or 19.4%, more product on hand.

Propane storages in the West started August a bit higher at 1084.1 Mcm, which corresponds to 6.83 MMbbl, the agency reported. From July to August, volumes increased by 247.2 Mcm, or 29.5%, and were 224.3 Mcm, or 26.2%, more than the year prior’s level of 859.8 Mcm.

Propane storages in the East started August higher at 411.6 Mcm, commensurate with 2.59 MMbbl. This gain put propane 122.5 Mcm, or 42.4%, higher for the month, with an increase of 18.7 Mcm, or 4.8% above a year earlier.

Canadian butane inventories stood at 1201.6 Mcm at the beginning of August, for an increase of 152.9 Mcm, or 14.6%, from July. Unlike propane, the year-over-year comparison finds butane volumes to be lower than the prior year’s total, with inventories 127.7 Mcm, or 9.6%, below 2025.

Western butane supplies, at 742.6 Mcm, were higher by 33 Mcm, or 4.7%, from the previous months and were 33.5 Mcm, or 4.3%, less than last year. Eastern butane, at 459 Mcm, was 119.9 Mcm, or 35.4%, higher month over month, and totaled 94.2 Mcm, or 17%, below a year earlier.
