Online Event To Discuss Commercialization Of Renewable Propane In US A

(October 19, 2020) – Join the chief executives of Oberon Fuels and Suburban Propane for a free online event to introduce one of the world’s largest alternative fuel markets and first commercialization of renewable propane, or DME (rDME), in the United States. Suburban Propane, the Whippany, NJ-based fuel distributor, has made green energy a centerpiece of its corporate strategy with its most recent acquisition of a 39 percent stake in Oberon Fuels, an alternative fuel producer based in San Diego. The companies’ CEOs, Michael Stivala of Suburban Propane and Oberon’s Rebecca Boudreaux, originally met at an industry conference in Washington, D.C. and will be hosting the “rDME As A Pathway to Zero-Emission Mobility and Carbon Neutrality” event Thursday, October 22, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to Noon (EST). DME or dimethyl ether, is a clean, colorless gas that is easy to liquefy and transport. It has remarkable potential for increased use as an automotive fuel, for electric power generation, and in domestic applications such as home heating, cooking, and many others. Renewable DME will play a critical role in helping industry and fleets meet the new low carbon fuel/emissions reduction standards in places like California and others around the world.

DME can be derived from a variety of renewable materials including biomass, waste and agricultural products) and fossil fuels (natural gas and coal). It has long been used in the personal care industry and is increasingly used as a clean-burning alternative to diesel and gasoline.

Event participants will gain insight on three key factors that have an impact on the introduction of rDME into the alternative fuel markets. The event will address details about the expansion of Oberon’s plant and the rDME demonstration project funded in part by the California Energy Commission (CEC), as well as the agreement announced last month between Oberon Fuels and NYSE-listed Suburban Propane.

Additionally, a recent Bill signed into law in California will be discussed that removes barriers to fleet adoption of vehicles fueled by a DME-propane blend and the product’s retail sale to consumers.
