API Welcomes Progress On Natural Gas Exports

The American Petroleum Institute (API) is welcoming final approval by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for exports of LNG from Cameron Parish, La. and Martin County, Fla, and is urging the Obama administration to accelerate the process for other projects.

“As the world’s top natural gas producer, America is in a strong position to create jobs, grow our economy, and bolster our influence overseas,” said Erik Milito, API upstream group director. “Cameron Parish and Martin County are now the second and third projects to receive final DOE approval. These projects open the door to billions in local investment, thousands of new jobs, and a stronger trade balance for the United States.”

However, Milito added that dozens of other permits still face lengthy delays. “We urge the administration to accelerate this process and work with leaders in Congress who have shown they are ready to strengthen America’s position as an energy superpower.”
