PERC Releases Online Video Marking Autogas School Bus Milestone

The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) recently released a new video detailing the growth of propane autogas in the school transportation market to coincide with a significant milestone for the industry—the delivery of the 10,000th Blue Bird autogas school bus.
PERC releases new video about growth of propane autogas in school transportation market

Before the 2017-2018 school year began, Blue Bird Corp. (Fort Valley, Ga.) delivered a new fleet of 90 buses to Fulton County Schools near Atlanta, which included the historic 10,000th bus.

“To commemorate this historic milestone for the industry, we created a video that celebrates this benchmark and discusses why propane autogas has had such impressive growth in the school transportation industry,” said Michael Taylor, director of autogas business development at PERC. “An increasing number of school districts around the country are saving on fuel, reducing maintenance costs, and lowering emissions in their communities because of propane autogass school buses, and we don’t see that growth stopping any time soon.”

Propane school bus registrations have increased 700% in the last five years, according to a report compiled by PERC using IHS Polk new-vehicle registration data. That growth has pushed the total number of autogas school buses currently in operation, at public and private school districts in 48 states, to more than 15,200.

About 928,000 students now ride a propane school bus to and from school. The milestone video from PERC showcases school officials and industry leaders advocating the benefits of propane autogas school buses, including their low total cost of ownership and cleaner emissions profile compared to conventional fuels like diesel.
