MFA Oil Acquires Kansas, Missouri Propane Companies

MFA Oil Co. (Columbia, Mo.) announced in late January it had acquired the propane and refined fuel operations of independent retailer Cardie Oil Inc. of Tampa, Kan. and full ownership of Callaway Propane LLC of Fulton Mo. Cardie Oil, founded in 1939, will retain its tire business and a vehicle service garage in Marion, Kan. Callaway Propane was formed in 1998 as a partnership between MFA Oil and Callaway Electric Cooperative.

Regarding Cardie Oil, Jon Ihler, MFA vice president of sales and marketing, said, “This addition broadens our marketing territory, moving us further west in Kansas and complements our existing operations within the state. As we grow our customer base in Kansas we remain focused on delivering the same level of excellent service and support that customers have grown accustomed to from Cardie Oil.”

“We are really pleased to have found such an ideal fit for our company,” said Cardie Oil president Craig Settle. “MFA Oil has the resources and technology to help us offer even better customer service and improve our operations. We are looking forward to a great future together and think that this is a great opportunity for our customers and employees.”

Ihler added that the decision to acquire Callaway Propane would allow each company to “focus on its core strengths moving forward. Taking full ownership of Callaway Propane allows us to fully implement some systemwide technology and efficiency upgrades that should greatly enhance propane services for our customers.” Callaway’s Fulton location will remain open and be rebranded
as an MFA Oil location.

MFA Oil also said it had acquired Raines Oil Co., an independent refined fuel retailer in Senath, Mo. Raines Oil has been a fuel provider for farmers, cotton gins, and local civic organizations since 1972. “Raines Oil Co. fits well with our existing operations in the Missouri Bootheel region, and this acquisition will help bolster our fuel storage in the area,” Ihler said.
